Show us some fish.
Sorry, I couldn't resist. I know it's fluff, but ... I love my small tank!
A while back I lost my only male Endler's. This morning Jean brought over four new fish for the small tank. Two are certainly males. Only time will tell with the others.
Initially the male Endler's seem to want to school with the Cardinal Tetras with brief forays to annoy the females of their species. The next few days should be interesting.
My friends Carole and Jean are off this week to Central America. I am taking care of the fish.
There are three tanks: one with Endler's, one Endler's maternity set up, and a large tank with Tetras. It's been lots of fun watching these little guys. I now know what my Endler's will look like soon and am reminded of just how much they've grown. It's also great watching the Tetras school and play. It's quite the contrast to my big goldfish.
So Jean, if you're checking the 'net, here is the upstairs tank.
I hope you're having fun!
Mmmm, it's a quiet morning. Cold, crisp, and bright. My friend Jean is away for a couple of days so I went and fed his fish, returned, and am now enjoying a wonderful coffee. I should be getting together the New Year's resolution list but I'm too lazy or just too amazed I made it to 2007! I will post the holiday wine reviews and, maybe, a few thoughts on resolutions. In the mean time I am just feeling very peaceful. I hope you are, too. Here is some belated fish footage. They are certainly contributors to this feeling of relaxation. This first video is a couple years old but features a favorite - Rupert. The second shows "The Boys" who appear to think I am going to feed them, again. They're huge!
Well. thanks to my friend Jean we now have 5 or 6 Enders Livebearers occupying a 5 1/2 tank. Jean was very patient collecting the fish and while we were trying to get 3 week old specimens it seems at least 1 3 day old is in the group. It was not easy catching any of them.
I have raised goldfish from fingernail size to six inches. Nothing, however, has really prepared me for these little ones - the smallest is just a few millimeters. Even their food (called First Bites - too cute) seems like dust. It will be interesting following their progress. As promised, fish photos will follow at some point.
Thanks again Jean. We should form the village 2 member aquarium club. I nominate you for President.
There's the dog (Jessie), the cat (Carlos), and the wild rabbit (Mimi) in our yard. Lots of people would think that's enough.
A few years back I inherited a goldfish through my niece. Well it looked so lonely it had to have some friends. To make a long story short I now have a four Goldfish (Pierre, Moustache, Denis, Ananas) in a fourty gallon tank. They're so big I can't have plants any more - they trash them. The Goldfish are great fun and everyone ejoys watching ther antics.
Next there is our fashion plate, Arc en ciel, a Betta. It seems lots of fish folk have a trendy species. Well, at least I didn't go through the financial commitment of a Clownfish (Finding Nemo). The Betta is boring, skittish and I'm sure other fish tell 'dumb Betta' jokes.
So why would I want more fish? It must be beacuse if I was a fish I would be a sucker.
My dear friend Jean has some very interesting guppy-like fish called Poecilia Endler's or Enders Livebearers. In the wild they only live in two Venezuelan lagoons. Being live bearers Jean was a father pretty fast and has offered me some offspring for Christmas. Hey I've got a five gallon tank that could be perfect.
Fish photos will follow, I'm sure.
